Hi everyone! Our fabrication shop is going through an ISO audit next month, and I need to make sure our testing procedures for heavy structural beams are fully compliant. We’ve been using portable rebound testers for a while, but the auditor always asks for detailed calibration records. This is a headache because our current documentation is basically a bunch of messy logbooks. Has anyone here gone through a strict audit while using portable NDT tools on heavy steel? How do you prove to an auditor that your handheld device is providing traceable data?

Auditors can be a massive pain about traceability, but it's totally manageable if your gear has decent software. The trick is to have valid test blocks and a device that generates clean, timestamped digital logs. A lot of the modern equipment, like the stuff you can find at https://teqto.pro/portable-hardness-testers/leeb-hardness-testers
provides the software to make this painless. You can just export data in a format that shows the calibration date and the individual stats for each beam. As long as you show that you check the device against a block every morning and keep those digital records, you should breeze through the audit.

That makes me feel way better about the upcoming audit, I’ll make sure to get a unit with solid reporting software.
