To get your target audience engaged with your social media business, you need to use the right (brand) language. You can add the following phrases to achieve the right tone of voice for your social media channels:

I want my brand to give people the feeling of…
I want people to… when they come into contact with my brand.
Three words that describe my brand are …, … and …
The contact between me and my clients feels like…
Once you've determined the right brand language, you can start creating content.

Increase engagement and likeability
Before someone becomes a client of your organization, you need to create a connection. This can be achieved through engagement, which the book describes as "establishing relationships to actively participate in the work." It's simply an expression of commitment. There are three reasons why people seek out engagement:

For entertainment and escape from daily routines.
To learn how to perform daily tasks better.
Research into a solution for a specific need.
To meet the need for engagement, it's important for your organization to demonstrate empathy. This can be achieved by understanding feelings, communicating to understand, appreciating connections, and demonstrating an ability to empathize with others.

If your post also plays into the viewer's experience, this can lead to visible likeability: a reaction, like, share or purchase.

The engagement pyramid
If your organization is just starting out with social media marketing, you won't immediately have a large community. You start at the bottom of the pyramid:

Observing : Awareness phase. You're still new online. People are visiting your website, but you're not getting much feedback from followers.
Following : In this phase you are mainly looking for more followers, friends and fans.
Endorsing : you reach a point where you have sufficient followers and more engagement becomes visible.
Contributing : The community itself starts sharing with you, instead of you just sending to them.
Ownership : There's a lot of engagement and interaction, allowing you to share increasingly relevant content. This, in turn, generates customers.
Leading : the organization manages to engage influencers and the fans themselves share relevant content.
What phase is your organization in now?
