The 8171 Ehsaas Program is a flagship social welfare initiative launched by the Government of Pakistan to support low-income families through financial assistance. The number "8171" refers to the SMS code and online portal (8171.pass.gov.pk) used by citizens to check their eligibility for various Ehsaas initiatives, including the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and Ehsaas Kafalat.
Launched to combat poverty and support vulnerable communities, the program enables individuals to register using their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Once registered, applicants can receive updates and eligibility status via SMS or the official 8171 web portal. Monthly stipends, typically ranging from PKR 9,000 to 14,000, are provided to women-led households, widows, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
The 8171 platform has made the process more transparent and accessible, reducing the need for in-person visits to government offices. It empowers citizens by giving them real-time access to information and support services.
