Hey fellow readers and writers ??
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how we actually define horror genre in today’s world. It’s not just about haunted houses or slasher villains anymore—there’s a whole psychological and emotional layer that’s become just as terrifying (if not more).
One author I recently discovered who really captures this shift is Brandon Gardner. His work doesn’t rely on jump scares or gore. Instead, he explores fear through grief, mental isolation, guilt, and the human condition. His books are eerie, yes—but also deeply emotional and surprisingly relatable.
What I love is how Gardner builds dread without ever needing to show a “monster.” The horror is the character. It’s what they’re running from internally, not just externally.
