The idea for of Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) for the use commercially in windows, was brought forward by several Professors at the University of Sydney. Professor Chang worked closely with China to develop a process for manufacturing VIG commercially in 2001.
The Peoples Republic of China created a new set of standards using Synergy Technology and built the first vacuum glass factory in 2003.
In 2017 the company was privatized. Synergy moved from Beijing to Tianjin and seven brand new vacuums were built. Each vacuum uses over 5 megawatts of power a year. Industrialization of vacuum tempered insulated glass was chosen as part of Chinas 35-year plan.
