Hippos might not seem agile, but they can surprisingly sprint when needed! So, How fast can a hippo run? These hefty animals can reach speeds of up to 19-25 miles per hour (30-40 kilometers per hour) on land. Despite their bulky appearance, they are quite fast, especially when threatened or during territorial disputes. However, they aren't built for extended running; they're more comfortable in water, where they're highly adapted. On land, their short bursts of speed serve as a defense mechanism. Interestingly, they can't maintain this speed for long distances due to their size and body structure.
