Use a patch panel if you want to store your patches in one place without damaging them. You can also take two of the firefighting patches and put them together against Velcro. This will prevent them from being lost and you will have them stored for as long as you want. The main thing you have to keep in mind is that the hook should not touch the other patches. If you take these important steps in protecting your patches then you can retain them for years.
